MSK RETNA has become a true living legend of the Street Art world.

His Margraves style calligraphy has captivated critics, collectors (amongst his collectors are some of the biggest names in film and music), he has collaborated with various fashion houses, designed the backdrop for the opera Aida etc etc…etc.

This work, published by a little known, now defunct publishing house in 2007; in an extremely small edition of only 35, is simply Retna at his best.

His ”Margraves” (what the artist calls his script) style calligraphy, was almost magical at this juncture in time.

Inspired by olde English, Arabic, Ancient Egyptian and a litany of other cultures (some from the past, some from the present and possibly some from the future) Retna’s work was and remains unparalleled in the world of calligraphy as well as contemporary art.

These works are incredibly special and seldom seen. They are Letterpress works (a reverse etching more or less), whereas the calligraphy is raised from the antiquated paper and literally textured.

While the Margraves calligraphy seen in this work; printed in black ink, remains incredibly tight and structured, the artist’s classic MSK RETNA Style signature, in graphite pencil seemingly flows effortlessly across the bottom of the antiquated paper.
