This original silkscreen print, measuring the full front page of The New York Times, is from Shibuya’s celebrated “55 Sunrises” series. It features a brilliant gradient wash shifting from deep crimson into luminous magenta, transforming the iconic masthead of the New York Times into a meditation on time, impermanence, and the fleeting beauty of each day. These silkscreens were produced on genuine New York Times newspapers and stamped verso with the Saint Laurent Rive Droite mark, as well as event details noting the Miami Beach installation from November 30 to December 5, 2021.

Shibuya’s practice, which merges contemporary minimalism with sharp cultural commentary, has garnered international acclaim. His “Sunrise” works are instantly recognizable and continue to rise in value on the secondary market, collected globally by museums, institutions, and private collectors alike. This particular edition is especially desirable: originally intended as cover sheets for the complete series, many examples were never distributed and countless others were discarded, making surviving copies extraordinarily rare.

Included with this work is the extremely scarce matching silkscreen Saint Laurent tote bag, also stamped with both Saint Laurent and Sho Shibuya’s insignia. Together, the print and bag represent a complete, historically significant set from the landmark collaboration that debuted during the early morning sunrise performances on the sands of Miami Beach.

The work and tote bag are both in pristine, as-new condition, preserved flat with archival materials since acquisition.
