***Damien Hirst*** is one of the most celebrated and influential artists of the contemporary era. As the leading figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs), Hirst transformed the international art world during the 1990s through his fearless exploration of life, death, beauty, science and spirituality. Today his works reside in the permanent collections of the Tate, MoMA, Centre Pompidou and countless major museums worldwide, while his market remains among the strongest in contemporary art. Few living artists have had such a profound impact on both contemporary culture and the global art market.
APC ART is pleased to offer ***"Nür Jahān" (The Empresses, H10-2)***, one of Damien Hirst's most visually arresting and technically ambitious recent editions. Published by HENI in 2022, this museum-quality work measures ***100 x 100 cm (39.37 x 39.37 inches)*** and is a ***laminated giclée print on aluminum composite panel with hand-applied screen printed glitter***. The work is ***hand signed by Damien Hirst in black ink*** and ***numbered and publisher stamped en verso*** from the edition of ***3,041***.
The *Empresses* series represents one of Hirst's most ambitious explorations of his celebrated Kaleidoscope Paintings. Inspired by symmetry, stained glass windows, sacred geometry and the remarkable beauty of butterfly wings, the series elevates these motifs into monumental compositions that blur the line between painting, sculpture and design. Each work is named after one of history's most influential female rulers, celebrating strength, beauty, resilience and legacy.
*Nür Jahān* is named after the legendary Mughal empress whose intelligence, diplomacy and patronage of the arts helped shape an empire. Hirst responds to her remarkable legacy with an extraordinarily rich crimson composition that radiates from its center like a cathedral rose window. Layers of brilliant reds, deep blacks and countless butterfly forms create an almost hypnotic mandala that continuously reveals new details the longer one studies it. The shimmering screen-printed glitter transforms the work throughout the day, reflecting changing light in a way that photographs simply cannot capture. It is simultaneously bold, elegant and deeply meditative.
As Damien Hirst himself remarked about the series:
*"I just made these 5 mega red glitter prints! I thought the idea was good but seeing them now, real, they feel like they are unlocking the unfathomable mysteries of the universe. I don't know why they are so good but they are... They feel powerful and important. I called them 'The Empresses' and named them after five famous female rulers (...) I love art and its uplifting qualities and how can these not make you feel good? I love it when an idea explodes and becomes more than the sum of its parts."*
Unlike traditional paper editions, *Nür Jahān* is produced on a rigid aluminum composite panel, giving the work exceptional depth, rigidity and permanence. The laminated giclée process faithfully reproduces every minute detail of Hirst's original painting, while the hand-applied screen printed glitter creates a constantly changing visual experience as natural and artificial light moves across the surface. The result is a work that feels almost sculptural—alive with energy and impossible to appreciate from only a single viewpoint.
