Offered TRUE by APC ART is an incredibly iconic work from one of the most beloved artists to come from the NYC East Village art scene in the 1980s.
This is an excellent opportunity for a collector to get a piece from the same art scene and era of the 1980s that spawned various art legends such as Jean Michel Basquiat , Andy Warhol and Keith Haring .
"Juicy Jungle" is an incredible work; it is a true testament not only to the artistry of Kenny Scharf but also the talent of screen printer Rupert Jasen Smith (Andy Warhol’s screen printer as well as collaborator) .
The work is a truly iconic piece with many of Scharf's signature stylistic elements from this era.
The quality of the print is truly exceptional. Rupert Jasen Smith is, no doubt, amongst the best screen printers the art world will EVER see and this work stands as a testament to that; the work looks like a painting not a print.
The multiple layers of textured, colored paint seems to jump off of the paper.
This work stands as yet another example (apart from the many Warhol prints Smith was involved with) why Andy Warhol chose Smith to be his screen printer of choice (when he was available) for many of Warhol’s most beloved works.
It was Scharf who designed the notable Ferris wheel for the ”Luna Luna" amusement park.
In addition, there was also an incredible documentary released about his life and work in 2021;
"Kenny Scharf; When worlds collide" (definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it).
While Scharf continues to produce art, these early pieces are becoming increasingly difficult to find (especially in this condition).
The print, itself is truly in exceptional condition.
It rests in its original frame, lightly floated. The original silver colored frame has seen better days but it still presents very well. It will be up to the new owner if they would like to reframe it (personally I would leave the vintage frame intact).
The work is hand signed and numbered from the edition by Scharf and features the publisher’s as well as Rupert Jasen Smith’s blindstamp (the same blind stamp on many of the Warhol and Haring works).
The Brant Foundation has just begun a survey of Scharf's work in November (this image was used for the announcement).
This specific work was published by Martin Lawrence editions (label affixed verso) in 1988.
The work is in hand and will ship quickly from
The USA.
This is truly an excellent investment work as well as a work not often seen. It has hung in my home for quite awhile and I always receive many questions as well as compliments about it. Truly an iconic piece from a very special time in contemporary art .
