APC ART is pleased to offer our global collector base a chance to acquire a very early, RARELY seen work by none other than Takashi Murakami .
Murakami is truly a living, modern master of contemporary art.
Murakami’s signature, stylistic ”Superflat Method” has changed the face of contemporary art.
Murakami’s influence on popular culture is rivaled only by names such as Basquiat, Warhol, Haring, KAWS and BANKSY .
”Guru Guru” is a seldom seen, extremely sought after edition published by the artist’s in house publisher KaiKai KiKi in 1999.
This work is one of the first editions to be published by KaiKai KiKi and the very first edition to utilize what has now become one of Murakami’s signature production techniques; the work consists of a lithograph in colors, cold pressed and then coated with a thick layer of pearlescent silkscreen varnish.
It is this layer of varnish that makes the edition literally sparkle and shimmer. If you are a collector of Murakami’s works you are familiar with this process as this is the technique utilized by KaiKai KiKi on the majority of the artist’s editions.
”Guru Guru” is a classic Murakami work, an excellent early example of the artist’s now iconic ”Superflat Method” and features many of the artist’s reoccurring themes and characters (most notably an extremely early itineraration of what is undoubtedly the artist’s most beloved character “Mr. DOB”).
The work consists of Mr. Dob in the foreground, surrounded by mushrooms (all with “Jellyfish eyes” another reoccurring stylistic motif in the artist’s works).
The subjects are set against a checkerboard backdrop of lightly colored squares highlighted by the pearlescent silkscreen varnish; this is a truly stunning work by Murakami .
This work has never been framed. In fact, it has been stored in its original glycine paper for the last 26 years. The work has had one original owner who acquired it directly from the artist shortly after release.
The work is truly a time capsule; the condition is absolutely flawless. It has been hand signed as well as numbered from the edition of 300 by Murakami in black ink, bottom right.
The colors are vibrant, there is absolutely no damage to the work whatsoever. This is quite possibly the finest example of this seldom seen edition in existence.
This is not only an extremely iconic Murakami edition; it is also an exceptional investment work.
The only other example of this edition on artsy is offered for nearly double, another work from the edition FALSE at Phillips Auction house for nearly $10,000 in 2016.
THIS WORK IS IN HAND AND WILL SHIP IMMEDIATELY FROM THE USA.
If you are a discerning collector of Murakami’s works, this may be the only opportunity to acquire this edition, in truly mint condition at this or any other price point.
The work will arrive with a certificate of authenticity from APC ART with the gallery’s embossed blind stamp.
This work is guaranteed to be authentic in perpetuity.
This is truly an outstanding, early example of the genius that is Takashi Murakami .
