With a style reminiscent of the Banksy street art, Hijack produced a very limited (edition of 50) of these hand pulled, hand deckled screen prints in 2021.
Hand signed with graphite pencil by the artist, hand numbered from the small edition of fifty complete with the artist’s fingerprint on the back of the silkscreen.
In this piece, the viewer is presented with a man wearing clothes reminiscent of the Great Depression era, sitting on a suitcase playing a hand organ (presumably to try to earn a wage). In between his legs is a cane, above him the text; “Folk what you heard.” is seen in a stark red hue.
An obvious play on words, in addition, perhaps, alluding to the fact that things are not what they appear to be (the print was produced in 2021– a point in time where cash had been freely distributed to the public as a result of the pandemic).
In fact, the artist was correct. The prosperity seen around the world from mid 2020 to mid 2022 was short lived— it has been followed by an extended time of inflation, war and overall uncertainly in the lives of most.
A truly iconic piece by one of street art’s most promising. The print will ship quickly from the USA.
