”Downhill” is a seldom seen edition self published by Seth Armstrong in 2019.
This edition is one of Armstrong’s earlier offerings, nonetheless, six years ago Armstrong’s work was full of the stylistic motifs, detail, color pallet and use of light in the artist’s work that has propelled him to the forefront of the contemporary art realm.
Armstrong’s landscape works are undeniably stunning.
Using his traditional pallet of various hues of Green, Blue, Purple, Yellow and Orange; Armstrong manages to paint a perfect picture of Southern California life atop a small hillside community.
As is the case with many of Armstrong’s works, the artist uses delicate hues of yellow and orange to produce soft, dimly lit scenes against the terra cotta bungalows that dot the landscape.
The work is set against a backdrop of lush, green trees with delicate touches of Purple and a pastel blue sky.
If you look closely you’ll notice a small, white truck, seamlessly gliding down the drive; as a young man, Armstrong owned a small Toyota pickup truck, this truck can be seen in various other early paintings and editions by Armstrong, this added touch gives these works a more personal feeling.
The work is in mint condition, it has been stored flat with archival materials since 2019.
