Ozabu’s (hailing from Japan) self-taught drawings are staggeringly detailed, stylized and yet lifelike, rendered with incredibly subtle line work.

Her originals are created with minimal media in pencil and graphite on paper, her ghostly hauntings of paper flesh range from the comely to the macabre.

Aesthetically inspired by the visual cultures and mythologies of Japan, emotive figurative drawings often incorporate animal symbolism and references to the natural world.

Preferring to allow the work to speak for itself, Ozabu often avoids comment on her imagery, hoping the viewer will shape personal readings themselves.

In ”Damashiai ”, Ozabu has created an absolutely gorgeous edition (very low edition of only 50). Based on her painting of the same name, the piece shows a young girl; various grids and designs across her hair, lower mouth and neck, set against a sepia colored backdrop.

A ghostly string flows through her hands as well as through her ears. A large, pronounced spider sits perched on the top right of her head.

Published by Thinkspace editions, nearly ten years ago. This is a rarely seen piece.
