*APC ART is proud to present the Slawn x Opake “Badly Drawn…Boxing Gloves” — a bold and culturally charged extension of the artists’ now-iconic glove series first unveiled during the landmark “Heroes, Villains & Violence” exhibition at the Museum of Graffiti, produced by APC ART during Art Basel / Art Miami 2025.*

*Executed in acrylic spray paint on premium white leather boxing gloves, each pair embodies the raw immediacy, irreverent humor, and graphic confrontation that define both Slawn and Opake’s collaborative practice. True to the “Badly Drawn…” ethos, the figures appear deceptively simple — intentionally crude, aggressively outlined, and emotionally exaggerated — yet beneath the apparent spontaneity lies extraordinary compositional intelligence and brand-level visual authorship.*

*Slawn, born in Lagos and based in London, has rapidly become one of the most dominant and disruptive forces in global contemporary art. His meteoric rise — marked by sold-out exhibitions, major institutional placements, and headline auction results — positions him as a defining voice of his generation. Opake, equally fearless in aesthetic execution, brings a distinct narrative and graphic clarity that complements Slawn’s expressive urgency. Together, their collaborations feel less like joint works and more like cultural events.*

*The boxing glove format is more than sculptural novelty — it is a loaded symbol. Gloves represent confrontation, spectacle, competition, heroism, villainy, and survival — themes central to the “Heroes, Villains & Violence” exhibition. By painting directly onto functional combat objects, the artists collapse sport, aggression, performance, and fine art into a single sculptural gesture.*

*The “Badly Drawn…” variants amplify this tension. The loose, almost childlike rendering rejects polish in favor of attitude. Thick black lines, exaggerated facial distortions, and raw spray gradients create an object that feels immediate and unapologetic. The leather surface absorbs and reflects pigment differently than canvas or panel, creating a tactile, dimensional quality unique to this series.*

*As with the earlier Hero & Villain glove releases, these works exist within an extremely controlled production framework. Limited examples were produced, and exhibition-tied examples — particularly those connected directly to Basel week — represent the most historically relevant category within the collaboration.*
