Dean Stockton (AKA D FACE) has made a name for himself in the world of street art beginning in the late 1990s.
His large scale, street murals - mostly of couples in the midst of embrace, replete with stylistic cues taken from Roy Lichtenstein were a shock to the senses of anyone and everyone who viewed them;
At first glance, Dface’s murals appear pastoral, almost cathartic in a sense.
Upon taking a closer look the viewer will notice a different side of the art; morbidity, sadness and regret permeate D's works.
Often times one of the two subjects appears to be of the living dead, the images (at times) accompanied by various text ruminating with regret, lost love as well as longing, leave the viewer pondering their own lost loves as well as feelings of regret.
After all, isn't that what "Street Art" is meant to do ?
Appeal to the masses - those that cannot identify with complex themes of one's own purpose, longevity, the meaning of life, other complex questions and metaphorical statements deeply embedded in collage and foreign objects — various elements that go hand in hand with the "contemporary art scene".
THE WORK; "RACE FACE" is simply D Face at his best.
A couple is locked in what appears to be an embrace many, many years in the making.
The female is adorned with a bright purple hue of hair, with D's ICONIC DEVIL HORNS/WINGS (which have often been seen in various BANKSY works). protruding from her head, while her male counterpart, in full automobile racing gear, has been reduced to a mere skeletal version of his former self.
Nonetheless the female stares longingly into what was once a traditional handsome face, the viewer, can only assume.
This is a large scale work, originally FALSE to VIP's at Art Miami , 2022 and then made available briefly online.
Not only does this work display the various stylistic elements that have made Dface a living legend in the street art world, Stolen Space's master silkscreen printer shows off his skills; various hues of purple, green, reds, tans and yellows are juxtaposed against a thick backdrop of midnight black paint.
This is a striking image from the edition of ONLY 100, hand signed by the artist as well as hand numbered in pencil.
The work bares the artist's and publisher's blindstamp.
This is a work you will not regret adding to your collection, a work worthy of display in a prominent area where it is guaranteed to command the attention of any viewer.
A truly masterful work by a brilliant artist.
