APC ART is pleased to offer our global collector base this powerful and iconic archival pigment print by legendary graffiti pioneer, John “CRASH” Matos.
“Crash ’18” measures approximately 22 x 17 inches, and is from a limited edition of 50. The work is hand signed, numbered, and dated by CRASH in graphite pencil. This piece has never been framed and has been stored flat in a smoke-free, pet-free environment — perfect condition for a collector or framer.
This print is a standout example of CRASH’s vibrant, energetic aesthetic. Drawing from his background in subway graffiti and street art, CRASH blends bold primary colors, graphic typography, and urban iconography with a controlled compositional balance. In “Crash ’18”, the letters and forms interlock and leap off the page — energetic, playful, and immediate. The work fuses the raw intensity of street tagging with the polish of fine art printmaking.
CRASH is one of the foundational figures in New York’s graffiti movement. Born in the Bronx in 1961, he began painting subway cars in his early teens before bringing his style into gallery spaces. He curated the pivotal “Graffiti Art Success for America” exhibition at Fashion MODA in 1980, helping to move graffiti into recognition as a legitimate art movement. His breakthrough gallery debut was with the Sidney Janis Gallery in 1983 — one of the first times a graffiti artist exhibited in a major fine art gallery. (He is thus frequently cited as bridging the gap between street practice and institutional art.)
Over the years, CRASH has collaborated with brands like Absolut Vodka, Levi’s, Fender Guitars, and TUMI, and he has designed custom guitars for Eric Clapton and John Mayer (his “Crashocasters” being highly collectible). His works are held in important collections and have appeared in museum shows, such as “Graffiti” at the Brooklyn Museum, and participated in star-turn exhibitions like Beyond the Streets.
CRASH’s collector base spans from street art aficionados to established contemporary art patrons. His prints and paintings command respect and value; large original canvases by CRASH have FALSE in the five- and six-figure range, and his prints (especially limited editions and rarities) often trade strongly. For those seeking a well-balanced investment in street art, “Crash ’18” offers tremendous upside: it combines iconic name, clean provenance, aesthetic power, and limited scarcity — all at a manageable scale.
The work is in hand and ready to ship from the USA. We are pleased to offer archival framing services tailored to preserve and present it at museum standards.
