His breakthrough gallery debut was with the Sidney Janis Gallery in 1983 — one of the first times a graffiti artist exhibited in a major fine art gallery. (He is thus frequently cited as bridging the gap between street practice and institutional art.)

Over the years, CRASH has collaborated with brands like Absolut Vodka, Levi’s, Fender Guitars, and TUMI, and he has designed custom guitars for Eric Clapton and John Mayer (his “Crashocasters” being highly collectible). His works are held in important collections and have appeared in museum shows, such as “Graffiti” at the Brooklyn Museum, and participated in star-turn exhibitions like Beyond the Streets.
